EARLY INTERVENTION

The Early Intervention Program provides appropriate, family-centered services for infants and toddlers (0-3) who have one or more developmental delays.

The purpose of the program is to meet the identified needs of infants and toddlers and their families with the goal of promoting the child’s development. The Early Intervention Program is coordinated with Help Me Grow and other community agencies so that services can be flexible and responsive to family wishes and needs.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for County Board services, the child must demonstrate a developmental delay in one or more of the following areas, as measured by a research-based developmental evaluation tool and clinical opinion:

*cognitive development
*physical development, including vision, hearing, and nutrition
*communication development
*social and/or emotional development
*adaptive development (self-help); or
*have a diagnosed mental or physical condition.

The Early Intervention Program provides specialized instruction for the child and support for the family. These services are provided primarily in the home as prescribed in the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP).

Monthly playgroups provide an opportunity for social interaction among children as well as an opportunity for parent education and parent to parent support. The Early Intervention Specialist and the Help Me Grow staff plan these events.

If you suspect your child may have a delay, call the Adams County Help Me Grow Program at 937-544-2038.

If you have any questions regarding Early Intervention, you may call the Board Office at 937-544-2574, or 937-544-5593, which is the direct line for the Early Intervention Specialist.
